This winter has been very tough for me on a personal level but I am finally looking forward towards the spring and summer – and with that my storm chasing trips in May. This year I will be chasing with StormGroup Chasers is a non-profit tour operator that I have been in contact with for a long time, but up until now have not chased with. As a part of my mission to test every tour company in the USA, they are next and I am really excited to go with them.
For those of you who don’t know StormGroup Chasers, they are a New Zealand based tour operator run by Peter Wharton (see interview with him here). As such, they are one of the smaller tour operators and in my tour we will only be 5-6 people in one vehicle, which is quite nice. StormGroup Chasers are also one of the least expensive tour operators in the market, which is good if you are on a low budget, and as such will be interesting to test and compare with other tour companies I have tried.
StormGroup Chasers tend to be sold out way in advance, so I booked the trip quite early last year to get a seat. They are mostly sold out for this season as well, but right now have one tour open which is Tour 4 in the beginning of June.
On a personal level, I feel very excited to go chasing again, even though spring feels far away at the moment. I am looking forward to getting into “storm mode” when the weather shifts in the USA and work some more on my live storm chasing map application StormCenter as well as picking up my cameras that have been collecting dust for almost a year now!
