Storm chasing (also referred to as tornado chasing tours, tornado safaris or storm safaris) with organized tours is a rapidly growing tourism industry where experienced storm chasers guide adventurers and tourists to amazing severe weather. The hunt for tornadoes, super cells, hail, lightning etc goes all over the midwestern states of USA. The tours are usually between 5-10 days in order to maximize your chances of seeing Mother Nature in her worst mood.
Storm Chasing usually takes place in the spring, around May-June, but you can go chasing in April and July as well. The tour could take you from the Rocky Mountains in the West to the East coast and from the Mexican border in the South up to the Canadian border in the North. The nature of weather makes it impossible to know where you will be any given day.
StormChasingUSA.com will help you towards an experience of a lifetime, that will become truly addicting. StormChasingUSA.com is not a Tour company, we just provide the information about the tour companies and their tours.

My name is Christoffer Björkwall and storm chasing is my greatest passion in life. I am a Swedish storm chaser specialized in storm chasing tours.
Since 2009 I have chased with 10 different tour companies and thus have a knowledge about the storm chasing tour companies like no other in the world.
I have been featured in USA Today, national Swedish media such as Sveriges Radio P3 “Morgonpasset”, Expressen, Kvällsposten, Café Magazine and Nyheter24.se.
I live in Skanör in the southernmost tip of Sweden with my fiancée and two kids. We get very few thunderstorms here but I try to chase for water spouts in the summer.

Today was the with the most promising parameters with very good CAPE, great shear and good moisture as well. The bullseye target that almost every storm chaser went to was western Oklahoma. I was very eager to see my first Oklahoma tornado (33 tornadoes but 0 in Oklahoma) and it really felt like we would…

This was the typical Day Before the Big Day with a setup that was better than the previous day. Roger’s bet was on eastern Colorado but our major concern was if the thick stratus would erode enough to create convection and instability. I was sitting in Roger’s van today and was able to hear a…

As I mentioned yesterday, I had no clue of how the weather would be this week but was happily surprised during the morning briefing, and while talking to Roger Hill this morning, that the weather is looking pretty good. In terms of SPC today was a 2% day covering SE Wyoming, NE Colorado and parts…

It has been quite a busy May for me with an amazing family trip to Italy leaving me only with three days to re-pack and get ready for my 2018 chasecation. My plan was to dig a lot deeper into forecasting this season and I did read the Tim Vasquez “Storm forecasting”-book but not more…

Today at noon (Swedish time) I will talk on Swedish national radio (Sveriges Radio P3) about storm chasing and I am really excited! The show is called “FrÃ¥ga vad du vill” which translates to “Ask me anything” so basically, the public will call in or write and ask me anything about chasing storms. Since this…

I have been chasing six seasons in a row and it has always felt like “This season is the last one” for many reasons. Chasing in the USA while being based in Sweden is expensive and slightly complicated. In november last year my life changed forever when me, and my beloved Charlotte, got a son!…

A long and tedious process is finally coming to an end now when the new design of StormChasingUSA.com is done. It used to be built in Ruby on Rails but is now based on WordPress to make it easier to update and troubleshoot, as opposed to the old version that was quite buggy. I hope…

In Sweden it is really rare to see a tornado for many reasons. First of all, we hardly get any. Secondly, if there are any tornadoes they are very small and do not last long so if you don’t look at the right place at the right time, you miss it. It is also very…

I recently decided to bring StormChasingUSA to Instagram. I used to post my storm photos on my travel account on Instagram (@TalesOfTrips) but realized it was better and easier to have all my storm chasing related photos on one specific account. On this Instagram-account I will post my best storm photos from ongoing, but mostly,…

I have just finished a thorough investigation of all the tour companies on this website (that offers scheduled chase tours) and was positively surprised to realize that every single tour company nowadays have a window seat guarantee! Historically, this has not always been the case and with some tour companies you could risk ending up…

I am currently sitting at the airport in Dallas on my way home to Sweden, trying to sum up the season of 2017 for myself. For many this was the worst season for a long time and it really started off bad for us, with the ridge sitting all over the mid west for the…

Today was our “Well, we can chase if there are any storms around Tulsa”-day, since we were all leaving around noon the day after. Although there was a chance for some sort of thunderstorms in Tulsa, the environment was best in north-east Kansas. We could not, however, risk being so far away from Tulsa so…

We had a vote at lunch about whether we should go home to Tulsa or chase up north. Since we were driving on our spare tire and the setup did not look to good my vote was on going home. Akos, the constantly positive Hungarian, convinced us on chasing so we went up to chase…

I woke up with a nice, peaceful feeling from the day before. Storm chasing is at its best when you can stand and watch a slow moving storm and take good time to take photos, enjoy and plan ahead. I really loved that! That nice, peaceful feeling came to an abrupt halt when we realized…

As today was a very marginal day we chose to really sleep in and catch up on some work. We didn’t leave Lincoln, NE, until after a nice lunch at Ihop and headed east towards Topeka, KS, to play the dryline again. The dewpoints and temperatures were super high so it was almost painful to…
